New Camper Gear
New to camping? Need gear? Here are some options.
Tent
Here is a reasonably priced family tent easy to setup for Fall, Spring and Summer. Good for cub campouts:
"Coleman Cabin Tent with Instant Setup
6 Person (Depending on time of year ~$170) Expect to Sleep up to 4 adult. Also, purchase the rain fly separate other wise open screen roof. Some tents come with a rain fly.
The person rating does not include baggage so a 4 person will fit 2 and a 6 person will fit 4, typically.
Make sure you purchase the separate rainfly as well as the tent above doesn’t come with it. ~$30
Note - whatever tent you purchase, always practice setting up prior to first campout to get familiar with it and ensure have all parts. Recommend you purchase spare tent stakes as well as they like to disappear.
Sleeping bags
Coleman Sleeping Bag | 20°F Sleeping Bag | Brazos Cold-Weather Camping Sleeping Bag ~ $40
One rated for 20 -40 Degree weather like this is good for 3 season camping (which is fine for cub scouts).
The temperature rating is lowest ever temperature you can use it in.
The comfort temp is usually 10 -15 degrees higher (i.e. a 30 degree bag not comfortable under 40 degrees).
Sleeping Pad
Used for under the sleeping bag but this is a personal choice.
~$20 - $50pp depending on how much want to spend.
If you’re new, yoga mats work ok or you can get moving blanket pads from places like Harbor Freight for under $10.
2 Tarps
Sized to tent
One for under tent to protect from ripping tent
One for inside for easy cleanup.
